A Short Stay in Hell. The idea for him to get out of hell is to find the book containing his story, except that’s an impossible task. (Well not impossible, just very very very hard.) It follows him as he meets people, is part of a university, finds and loses his love, gets captured by a wack job, falls for days, and on and on. I read the novella “A Short Stay in Hell,” (Strange Violin Editions) by BYU professor Steven L. Peck. It’s perhaps the oddest book I have read, but it’s also so compelling that you can’t.

A Season in Hell (French: Une Saison en Enfer) is an extended poem in prose written and published in by French writer Arthur is the only work that was published by Rimbaud himself. The book had a considerable influence on later artists and poets, including the Surrealists. A Short Stay in Hell It reads like a book that is preparing a fantastic and satisfying climax, and then it is over, which is too bad. Soren has a lot of really interesting ideas about life, death, and the meanings associated with relationships. I would have thoroughly enjoyed spending more time with him.

Steven L. Peck has 28 books on Goodreads with ratings. Steven L. Peck’s most popular book is A Short Stay in Hell.   The house was a short walk from the ocean; on our way, we had driven by the harbor overlooking the cold, glittering Atlantic, and when we stepped out of .

A Short Stay in Hell is about a faithful Mormon man who ends up in Zoroastrian Hell when he dies. Having followed the “wrong religion” all of his life, he is condemned to a giant library (based on the Library of Babel) where he and his fellow deceased must each find the book containing their life story in order to escape/5().

A Short Stay in Hell is one of those books you wonder why you haven't heard of prior to actually hearing of it, then you pick out each of your friends who HAVE heard of it and shoot spit-wads at their doors for not telling you about it sooner.

This is the type of writing I enjoy -- ultra creative, character-driven, but more than just "fluff." /5. A Short Stay in Hell is about a faithful Mormon man who ends up in Zoroastrian Hell when he dies. Having followed the “wrong religion” all of his life, he is condemned to a giant library (based on the Library of Babel) where he and his fellow deceased must each find the book /5().

Whether you've loved the book or not, if you give your honest and detailed thoughts then people will find new books that are right for them.

1 A Short Trip To Hell: Hellcat Series Origins Volume 1. A Short Stay In Hell is an extremely smart and exceptionally well-written book, with an interesting and thought-provoking story, setting, and characters. This is a book.

What other book might you compare A Short Stay in Hell to and why. There is really no other book to compare it to; that said, this novella is an excellent examination of human morality, character, religious belief systems, etc. Excellent. What about Sergei Burbank’s performance did you like.

Very well done!/5(6). “Profound and disturbing, A SHORT STAY IN HELL is a perfect blend of science fiction, theology, and horror. A terrifying meditation on faith, human nature, and the relentless scope of eternity. It will haunt you, fittingly, for a very, very long time.” – Dan Wells, author of I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER “An irresistible invention.

The planet is overflowed by books containing all the possible permutations of letters. Steven L. Peck wrote a novella entitled A Short Stay in Hell () in which the protagonist must find the book containing his life story in an afterlife replica of Borges' Library of Babel.

A place without place. A place without context. But, here, now, I could rub her hand and she would sigh. She was a difference. Perhaps each person was the only difference in all these halls of unchanging ranks of books, kiosks, clocks, and carpet, and that, and that, at least, we had to hold to.” ― Steven L.

Peck, A Short Stay in Hell. A Short Stay In Hell () About book: I typically rate books by how long I think about them after reading them. For a book that I read and finish without a second thought, I will never give five stars. For a book that sticks with me, permeates my dreams, or becomes a basis for decision making (even for just a while) I view to be five star book meets those requirements.

A SHORT STAY IN HELL (Strange Violin), by Steven L. Peck When I read the jacket blurb on this book, I must admit to no little excitement on my part. “ As a faithful Mormon, Soren Johansson has always believed he’ll be reunited with his loved ones in an eternal hereafter. Very well done. Pithy and poignant, A Short Stay in Hell is an existential tour de force. The beauty of the book, like the despair of the Hell it describes, lies in its relentless familiarity. It is as if Peck has cobbled together a personal parable for each and every one of us, a hauntingly intimate allegory for the everyman.

And that is the genius of Peck. A Short Stay in Hell is about a faithful Mormon man who ends up in Zoroastrian Hell when he dies. Having followed the “wrong religion” all of his life, he is condemned to a giant library (based on the Library of Babel) where he and his fellow deceased must each find the book /5.

A short stay in hell. [Steven L Peck] -- A damned man struggles to find meaning in a library, the dimensions of which are measured in light years. A Short Stay in Hell is a quick and easy read.

I read it in less than two hours, but don’t be fooled. I read it in less than two hours, but don’t be fooled. The final page is just the beginning of the exercise, not the end of the book.

A Short Stay in Hell Eternity, when put into proper perspective, is a most terrifying concept. As a child, my sister would occasionally suffer from late-night bouts of anxiety as her young, imaginative mind contemplated what we might refer to as “the eternities.”. An ordinary family man, geologist, and Mormon, Soren Johansson has always believed he'll be reunited with his loved ones after death in an eternal hereafter.

Then, he dies. Soren wakes to find himself cast by a God he has never heard of into a Hell whose dimensions he can barely grasp: a vast library he can only escape from by finding the book that contains the story of his life.
